Elche is the third largest city in the province of Alicante, 9.5 miles south from Alicante Airport. it is very rich in culture and history.

The Palm Grove that surrounds Elche has up to 200,000 palm trees. It was designed by the Muslims in the 18th Century and became Elche's symbol of identity. The Palm Tree Grove was declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in the year 2000 and is the largest Palm Tree Grove in Europe.

Elche is divided into two by the Vinalopo River, which is more like a canal than a river. It was once a broad deep river that created the rift that divided the town. (There is a myth that Hanibal’s father, Hamilcar Barca drowned here) The two sides of the town are connected by seven bridges.
