Torrevieja Travel Guide
If you'd like to experience the beauty of Spain's Costa Blanca, please
consider visiting lovely Torrevieja, approximately 50 km (31 miles) from the
city of Alicante. The airport in Alicante offers convenient access to the region.
The Torrevieja area is a popular beachfront vacation destination, both for Spaniards
and English speakers. Torrevieja is a sunny retreat from daily life, and an
ideal vacation getaway all year round.
The city of Torrevieja, literally "old tower", is historically known
for its role in the salt trade. Torrevieja is surrounded by two large salt lakes,
Torrevieja and La Mata. These two lakes produce more than half a million tons
of salt annually. During your visit to Torrevieja, you should stop in at the
Museum of Sea and Salt to learn more about this long tradition in the area.
Culturally, Torrevieja serves as a sort of language divider between the Catalan
spoken in the North and the Castellan Spanish spoken in the remainder of Spain.
Torrevieja is typically bilingual, with many people speaking both Catalan and
Castellan Spanish. Given the large English speaking tourist population, you'll
find it an easy place to travel even as a non-Spanish speaker.
Things to do in Torrevieja
Torrevieja is best known by tourists for its lovely beaches.

harbour is home to more than 300 fishing boats and many more private
sport boats. Boat tours of the Costa Blanca are available for interested visitors.
Not only are the clear waters of Torrevieja's beaches available to its visitors,
but mud baths in the healing waters of lakes La Mata
and Torrevieja are also well renowned, and recommended for treatment
of a variety of ailments.
The Torrevieja town square is charming and quaint. If you're
